Now Recruiting: Senior Design Engineer [Position Filled]

ITERATE is a dynamic product design consultancy based in Chepstow. We are focussed on developing innovative products from an initial concept right through to production, and work with a diverse client base that includes start-up companies to well established organisations. We are unique within the industry as we enable our clients to be ‘First-to-Market’ using a proven development process that allows new products to be conceived within a rapid time-frame, and have a track record of developing technology, healthcare and industrial products. Due to the company securing an exciting long term Welsh Government contract, a position has arisen for a full-time permanent Senior Design Engineer.

We are seeking an experienced and robust individual who has a high level of technical and commercial competency. The Senior Design Engineer will oversee a small team of Design Engineers and will take responsibility for the quality of project outputs, ensuring that they are delivered on time and within budget.

As a Senior Design Engineer , you will:

  • Oversee and guide a small team of Design Engineers
  • Be involved in the long-term strategy and planning of the business
  • Lead client engagement meetings and project presentations
  • Undertake technical and commercial research related to new product developments
  • Deliver internal idea generation session and external focus groups
  • Communicate design ideas through a high level of digital/hand sketching
  • Create 3D CAD models of parts, sub-assemblies and assemblies
  • Demonstrate the effectiveness of new designs through prototyping, physical/virtual testing
  • Engage with third parties such as suppliers to source any required components
  • Visit relevant trade shows and strategic project partners to accumulate industry knowledge
  • Manage project time-lines, updating the client and key staff when required
  • Work Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 17:30 with 1 hour lunch break

The successful candidate should posses the following skills and attributes: 

  • Ideally 10 years but a minimum or 5 years industrial experience
  • Solid understanding of the product development process, e.g. research, concept, development, detail, prototyping etc.
  • Good understanding of engineering principles, e.g. mechanics, thermal transfer, fluid dynamics, aerodynamics, acoustics
  • Good understanding and operation of 3D CAD systems, e.g. Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Onshape (or similar)
  • Good understanding of 3D CAD simulation, e.g. FEA, Heat and Flow Analysis
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes, e.g. injection moulding, machining, casting
  • Good understanding of 3D printing processes, in particular FDM, SLA and SLS
  • Should be hardworking and committed to achieving design excellence
  • Should be flexible and have the ability to learn and apply new knowledge
  • Should be methodical, analytical in their approach and able to critique their own designs
  • Should be able to verbally and visually communicate design ideas to individuals and groups
  • Should be able to nurture the abilities of others within the team

The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:

  • MSc/MEng Mechanical Design, Engineering Design, Product Design (or similar)
  • Relevant industrial experience will be considered if suitable academic qualifications have not been obtained
