ITERATE are Thrilled to Welcome Joseph Melia to the Design Team
For the most part, 2020/2021 has been a rollercoaster for everyone and I am no exception, which is why I am pleased to join the ITERATE family as their most recent Product Design Engineer based in Chepstow. After spending some time abroad, I am looking forward to settling back down in Wales and appreciating what this beautiful country has to offer, whilst working alongside the award-winning design team at ITERATE.
ITERATE have been on my radar as a progressive design and innovation consultancy for a number of years having observed their rapid client portfolio growth.
My background has consisted of many roles, most related to design but others have enabled me to grow as a designer by experiencing first-hand what I believe to be one of the most crucial parts of product design, the user and their environment. After graduating from Cardiff Metropolitan University with a BA (Hons) in Product Design, I was recruited by Bisley Office Equipment where I worked under the Head of Design at the time – John Fogarty. While absorbing all the experience and knowledge I could, we took a predominantly mainstream company and injected their heritage and workmanship into a range of furniture products. This is what truly ignited my passion for consumer design; and, I have been on an accelerated design journey ever since. Continuing from Bisley to design coins for The Royal Mint; lighting & acoustics for Luxxbox Australia; and most recently, medical products for various companies here in the UK.
I believe I am one of the lucky few, and can honestly say that I love my day job, making getting up in the morning that little bit easier. But I also try to spend as much of my personal time as possible continuing to do other things I love: climbing, water sports, riding my motorbike, cooking and photography. So, I am thrilled to join ITERATE Design + Innovation and look forward to working with Gethin and the wider design team. I can already see that the projects will be engaging and that everyone promotes a positive working culture. I have no doubt that my time at ITERATE will be full of exciting challenges, transforming clients’ ideas with tangible solutions into actuality.
