The Client
Ultima is a commercial cleaning company who work with the Police to clean crime scenes, patrol vehicles and prison cells. Through this experience, they identified the need to develop a solution that would allow them to quickly and effectively sanitise such environments. Ultima Cleaning was introduced to ITERATE by the Welsh Government.
Design Challenge
Generic sanitising cans within the market spray a single vertical jet. Due to the enclosed environments of use, this was not suitable as it would result in a damp patch being left on the Police cell ceiling. The challenge was to develop an aerosol cap that could provide a distributed spray pattern, as well as automatically dispensing the entire can with a single press.
“We benefitted from the Free 3 Day Health Check offered by Welsh Government. This allowed us to overcome several design challenges we had been unable to solve in-house” Ben Giles, Managing Director at Ultima Cleaning Solutions
Our Solution
Using a three-nozel configuration, each with a dispersal gauze, the aerosol can achieve the maximum distribution of sanitising spray. A non-return locking feature in the lower part of the cap ensures that once it has been pressed by the user that all of the liquid is deposited over a 2-3 minute period.
Final Outcome
After receiving a positive reaction at a recent trade show, Ultima Cleaning intend on extensively testing the design before launching production. As the final solution is novel, the client was advised to protect their intellectual property by registering the design and filing a patent.
