The Client
The purpose of this product concept was to demonstrate how facial recognition software could be applied to home security devices. Pigeon is intended to add an additional layer of security to the home by learning entry and exit patterns of family members. This system can also connect to other devices within the domestic environment such as smart locks.
Design Challenge
The design challenge was to create a product aesthetic that could subtly fit within the modern home environment. Its bottom heavy ‘pigeon-like’ form provides an element of fun, whilst maintaining a clean and contemporary appearance. A choice of three colours makes Pigeon suitable for use in the kitchen, living room or bedroom.
“ITERATE provide a refreshing product design perspective and are ever conscious of pragmatic, efficient and intelligent design solutions” Richard Slade, Client Services Director at Brandrefinery
Our Solution
Complete smartphone integration enables alerts to be set so that family members are aware when others enter or exit the property. Warning messages can be set and sent to all family members if an unknown face is identified. Operational time limits can also be defined so that Pigeon is active on specific days of the week of hours within the day.
Final Outcome
The developers of Pigeon intend to raise SEIS (Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme) finance to validate the market opportunity; refine their facial recognition software; develop a physical working prototype; and begin preparations for high volume manufacture. It is hoped that the first round of funding can be secured with a private investor on an equity basis.
