The Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS) is designed to help small, early-stage companies raise equity finance by offering tax reliefs to individual investors who purchase new shares in those companies. It complements the existing Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) which offers tax reliefs to investors in higher-risk small companies. The Influence of Arduinos in New Product Development

Arduinos and similar microcontroller boards are having a huge impact on the way modern products are developed. The low cost and easy to use systems mean that designers and engineers are able to prototype and test ideas in a short period of time, allowing them to make design decisions based on rapid feedback.

ITERATE Welcomes Daniel Bartlett

Daniel Bartlett joins the team at ITERATE Design + Innovation on the Jobs Growth Wales (JGW) programme. JGW is a Welsh Government European funded scheme that enables 16-24 year olds to ‘kick-start’ their career, and is intended to support the creation of 8,955 new job opportunities over the next 3 years right across Wales. Dan follows in the footsteps of Ross Johnson, who undertook a JGW placement with the company in October 2016; joining the design team on a full-time basis in April of this year. Read more

Bad Packaging Design Shamed by Recycling Association

Pringles tubes and Lucozade Sport bottles are the “villains” of the recycling world, a trade body has said. The Recycling Association named them in a list of products that pose the biggest challenges for reuse. The greater the number of materials used in packaging, the harder it is for recycling machines to separate them. The distinctive Pringles packaging – with its metal base, plastic cap, metal tear-off lid, and foil-lined cardboard sleeve – was said to be a “nightmare”. Lucozade’s bottle is recyclable but it is enclosed in a sleeve made from a different kind of plastic. Read more

How Amazon Launchpad Is Helping Start-Up Companies

Amazon Launchpad is a platform setup with the intention of helping start-ups to grow by taking advantage of Amazon’s pre-existing network of fulfilment and marketing. Applicants are generally accepted from a pre-approved list of funding sources such as Kickstarter, venture capitalist firms and other types of start-up accelerators; but they also consider applicants who raised finance using alternative methods. ITERATE TALKS TO THE FORCE BEHIND THE SINCLAIR C5 REVIVAL

In a chance meeting, our Managing Director, Gethin Roberts talks to Grant Sinclair, the man behind the revival of the Sinclair C5 in the form of the IRIS eTRIKE®. During a promotional photo shoot alongside the bank of the River Wye in Chepstow, Grant explains that his vehicle is “faster, safer and more efficient than the C5” originally developed by his uncle, Sir Clive Sinclair during the 1980s.
