My Remote Internship

As part of my Masters degree in Product Design at Cardiff Metropolitan University, I was required to complete an industrial placement. I was extremely lucky to be given the opportunity to undertake a 4-week internship with ITERATE Design + Innovation. Due to social distancing guidelines, it was agreed that the internship should be undertaken remotely. During the placement, I undertook bi-weekly conference calls with Gethin Roberts (Managing Director) and Thomas Gray (Product Design Engineer). This was a great way to update them on my progress but also gain feedback, support, and guidance. As a result, I was tasked with the development of a medical/healthcare product that leveraged SigFox technology. SigFox technology is growing tremendously with its low-power ability to connect sensors and devices, with the aid of small byte commands. Read more

How Additive Manufacturing Assisted in the Fight Against Covid-19

The onset of coronavirus has fundamentally changed the way we live. At the beginning of the crisis, it was feared that the NHS may not have the capacity to cope with the surge in demand and that items of personal protective equipment (PPE), vital in the protection of health care professionals from contracting and transmitting the virus, were in short supply. It became apparent that existing supply-chains and production lines of equipment such as N92 masks; face shields; scrubs and gloves could not adapt quickly enough to meet demand; therefore, a rapid response was required. ITERATE WELCOMES SENIOR DESIGN ENGINEER, CHRIS TYLER

This month, ITERATE are thrilled to welcome Chris Tyler who will take on the role of Senior Design Engineer. Chris joins the team after working at Dyson, Aston Martin Lagonda and within Rolls-Royce for a number of years. Chris started his career after graduating with a BSc in Product Design Technology from the University of the West of England (UWE) in 2012, and has since focussed on becoming an excellent Product Design Engineer. ITERATE WELCOMES RHYDIAN & MATT TO THE DESIGN TEAM

August is often a quiet month in the business calendar with many clients and suppliers taking annual leave. However, this summer we are thrilled to welcome Matt Beamish and Rhydian Dobbin. Matt joins us after completing a BEng in Product Design Engineering at Loughborough University, and Rhydian joins us after completing a MSc in Product Design at Cardiff Metropolitan University. The new team members will help build upon the electro-mechanical engineering knowledge within the company – enabling us to work across a greater variety of projects in the medical, consumer and industrial sectors. Thomas Gray Completes Jobs Growth Wales Programme

The Jobs Growth Wales programme offers young people like me an opportunity to experience what life is like in the design industry. After the completion of my initial 6-month placement I can vouch that this programme not only works for the employee but the employer also. Whilst the employee gathers vital experience that will benefit them immensely from more experienced colleagues, the employer gains a member of staff that they are able to mould into their working environment. This placement has given me an invaluable insight to the industrial world of design and left me eager to learn more.
