ITERATE takes on Movember

This month the team at ITERATE are taking part in Movember, an annual event that takes place in the month of November and includes growing a moustache in order to raise funds for men’s health. This year, we have decided to focus on men’s mental health, a topic the team feel really passionate about generating awareness around. With the design engineering sector being heavily male orientated, we feel obliged to use the platform of Movember to show case our support and raise as much funds as possible to help this fantastic organization.

Having followed the work that ITERATE Design + Innovation have produced since starting university in 2017, I am delighted to join such an amazing team as a Junior Product Design Engineer. I feel incredibly lucky and grateful to be given this opportunity straight out of university, having graduated from the MSc Product Design course at Cardiff Metropolitan University this year.  I also completed my undergraduate degree in BSc Product Design (Hons) at Cardiff Met and absolutely loved my time there.

Have You Noticed – Do We Look Different?

You might have noticed a subtle change in our online presence recently. However, you can be forgiven if this has gone under your radar; as we have quietly been working on a brand refresh and slowly rolling this out across our social media platforms without the normal fanfare usually applied to such an unveiling. Having built a successful brand identity and consolidated our reputation within the UK design and manufacturing industries, we felt that it was time to update our image to better reflect our evolving business values and to more closely align with the customer base we now serve. INSIDE ITERATE: Gethin Roberts on Why You Should Share Your Design Budget

INSIDE ITERATE is back, taking on a subject that’s a vital part of the new product development process, inspired by Managing Director, Gethin Roberts. This subject is the value of being open about your design budget.

Here’s a scenario to illustrate just this,

You reach out to a product design consultancy who could partner on your project. The NDA is in place and you share your ideas, objectives, and ambition; upon discussing this, both parties become energized about what could be achieved during this possible project and the creative juices start flowing. The consultancy delivers a quotation for the project and then, everything stalls.

Inside ITERATE: Holly McSweeney on the Future of FemTech and Why Women’s Health is Not a Niche

The most recent thought to inspire our INSIDE ITERATE series comes from ITERATE’s Sales & Marketing Assistant Holly McSweeney who was eager to use this opportunity to shine a spotlight on femtech: exploring its origin, why the sector matters to all and what we can do to fuel its growth. Holly shared her curiosity in this area…

The fact that the very term femtech itself was only conceived of a mere five years ago speaks volumes, both about the incredible work done by the earliest femtech startups and about the attention that this sector is long overdue.

Celebrating 7 Years of ITERATE: Our Take on the Design Sprint

On the 21st of May 2021 ITERATE Design + Innovation turned 7. To mark this business milestone we set out to try something new. Drawing upon recent success trialling the design sprint concept for a Client project, we felt this milestone provided the perfect opportunity to involve the full team at ITERATE in another, bigger design sprint. So, to celebrate our 7 years designing disruptive products, our 7 team members (from design, electronics and marketing) took 7 hours to push the boundaries and see just what we could do. Our ambition was to develop a targeted, considered, purposeful concept by the end of our 7-hour sprint.

INSIDE ITERATE: New Materials Round Up with Matt Beamish

Our new materials round up has been devised in collaboration with Design Engineer, Matt Beamish; it features some of the most ground-breaking new materials we have either used, encountered or been inspired by recently. Huge strides are being taken to deliver new sustainable materials that don’t demand a compromise in the quality and finish consumers have come to expect. The result of this, is new materials that tackle the heart of the waste crisis with a combination of biochemistry and commercial awareness in order to present viable alternatives.

INSIDE ITERATE: The Bigger Picture of Product Sustainability with Thomas Gray

Inside ITERATE sustainability is a subject that comes up a lot. From conversations with Clients to using sustainable design principles in the products we design. Thomas Gray is one the design engineers in the ITERATE team and this week’s article is inspired by a conversation with Tom about how product-based businesses have a responsibility to consider sustainability beyond just materials and marketing.

Sustainability is widely revered as a cornerstone of a responsible product and brand. This focus on sustainability has been driven by the voices of consumers who for years have pushed for more environmentally-conscious choices to be offered by brands. There’s no doubt that sustainability is and will continue to be a top priority for consumers. But, how can businesses live by this same value? The most successful product-based businesses are those that don’t just answer the demand with words, but who embed environmentally-considered processes into their business models and supply chains. Some go even further, recognising that sustainable systems have the power to enhance product experience.
