Engineering Design

As a highly skilled team of Design Engineers, we readily apply engineering principles to the products we develop. This knowledge encompasses: design for manufacture; mechanical assemblies; stress and strain; fluid and thermodynamics; acoustics; heat transfer and thermal expansion. Many of these aspects can be simulated in a virtual environment; however, we prefer to take a pragmatic approach and will validate your design through rigorous prototyping and testing.

Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical engineering is our central skillset and is placed at the core of every product we develop; whether this be a two-piece plastic moulding that locks together or a large scale assembly with multiple moving parts. We have a proven track record of delivering projects that vary in their mechanical complexity. Due to the wide use of plastics within product design, we are equipped to identify the most suitable material for your application. We will select a material for your product that is based on its required structural integrity; environment of use; intended life-time; cost; availability; and method of disposal.

We have developed a number of products that require Ingress Protection (IP). This level of mechanical performance is needed to prevent water or dust entering a unit and damaging the internal electronics. This is a common requirement for industrial enclosures that are being used outdoors or consumer products that are used in harsh environments. The IP rating scale is illustrated using two digits; for example, a product that is IP65 approved can withstand low pressure jets of water from all directions and prevent entry of all dust particles – the scale ranges from IP00 to IP68.

Whilst we have experience of working on heavy engineering projects, we prefer to apply this knowledge to products that fall within the technology, consumer, industrial and healthcare sectors but not exclusively.

Electronic Engineering

We have partnered with a specialist consultancy who have the capacity to develop electronic hardware and software, and can work seamlessly alongside us on your project. More recently, we have designed a number of products that are related to the Internet of Things. These products are usually ‘app’ enabled and leverage communication methods such as: Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, GPRS, Sigfox, LoRaWAN and Radio Frequency.

When working on your electro-mechanical project, our partner will follow the Rapid Product Development Pathway. This is likely to involve utilising existing technologies such as the Raspberry Pi or Arduino to demonstrate working concepts before designing the Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) and optimising them for manufacture. Using our distributed manufacturing supply chains, we are able to produce PCBs in small or large quantities.
